Dutch Prosecutors Demand a 3 year sentence against English Man for his role in Bohemia Market

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has demanded a 3-year prison sentence and the confiscation of 31 bitcoins against a 21-year-old man from England before the Rotterdam court on Monday. The public prosecutor of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office sees the suspect as a major player behind what was once the world’s largest dark web market Bohemia/Cannabia(cannabis only market), where drugs, stolen credit cards and forged IDs were sold internationally .

On the dual platform Bohemia/Cannabia, which ran on the dark web, sellers could trade anonymously in hard drugs, soft drugs, medicines and, for example, DDos attacks. The dark web market had sellers and customers worldwide. Of the 54 countries, the Netherlands ranked number 7 as one of the larger exporters. At the beginning of this year, twenty thousand orders were linked to the Netherlands.

Dutch servers

Due to its international character, the High Tech Crime Team of the National Investigation and Interventions Unit has worked closely with other countries. The investigation into Bohemia in the Netherlands started in August 2022, when it was discovered that the platform partly ran on Dutch servers in Dronten. Shortly afterwards, detectives managed to identify the British man. When he traveled to Schiphol on June 27, 2024, the police arrested him. In his laptop and phones, detectives find important evidence of his role at Bohemia. The police also secured 31 bitcoins (worth 1.7 million euros at the time).

The investigation shows that the technically skilled, then underage suspect started writing scripts for the market admin behind Bohemia in 2019. However, he quickly took on an increasingly prominent role in setting up, managing and securing the online drug market.

“Bullet Proof Servers”

The Accused used ‘bulletproof servers’ to host Bohemia on the TOR network, the suspect stated that he was given the opportunity to take over the work of one of the top members of the organization in 2023 and then become a ‘partner’. But after a few weeks, problems would emerge because of undisclosed issues(allegedly a rogue developer according to the admin in a dread post) and a large amount of money disappeared. The suspect was then the only one who works on Bohemia. Not much later, the online drug market shuts.

Child Porn

The investigation also reveals chat evidence where he discusses with his brother how to launder and spend his $1.8 million fortune. He is said to have been busy setting up an online casino, renting luxurious accommodations and traveling on a private jet.

The police also discovered images of child sexual abuse on the suspect’s Telegram account. Chat conversations he conducted between September 2023 and February 2024 show that he paid for Child Abuse Images with bitcoin. The man is also charged with possession of child pornographic material.

The court will make its ruling next week.
